The Challenge

Tula needed to migrate its ecommerce operations from WooCommerce to Shopify Plus to enhance the user experience, streamline backend processes, and support business growth. The primary challenge was managing the migration of extensive content, including product listings, category and subcategory structures, and customer data.

Additionally, Tula sought a comprehensive redesign of the sitemap, enhanced page designs, and conversion rate optimization (CRO) through heat mapping and user behavior analysis.

What We Did

Our scope of work for Tula included the following key services:

Website Migration and 301 Redirects

We managed the complete migration of Tula’s website content from WooCommerce to Shopify Plus, including all product listings, categories, blogs, and historical data. To mitigate SEO risks, we implemented a thorough 301 redirect strategy to maintain search engine rankings. Using tools like Google Webmaster Tools and Shopify’s Transportr app, we mapped out and executed the redirects, ensuring minimal impact on search engine visibility.

Custom Design Development

We performed a pre-design analysis to identify areas for improvement using user interface and analytics insights. Based on this analysis, we provided custom designs for the new Shopify Plus platform, including redesigning the homepage, collection pages, product detail pages, and content pages. We provided two design revision rounds for Tula to ensure the output aligned with their brand vision and user expectations. Our goal was to create a visually cohesive and user-friendly experience that highlighted the unique aspects of Tula’s skincare products.

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)

To enhance user engagement and drive conversions, we installed heat mapping software and analyzed available analytics to identify opportunities for CRO. This allowed us to make data-driven decisions for optimizing the design and functionality of the website, ensuring an improved customer journey that maximized engagement and reduced bounce rates.

Custom Theme Development on Shopify Plus

After the design phase, we developed the custom pages and templates on Shopify Plus using HTML, CSS, and the Liquid templating language. This included coding custom page templates for the homepage, collection pages, product pages, and other core sections, ensuring mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.

Email Customization and Marketing Integration

We handled email customization using Klaviyo, creating custom email templates for customer engagement before, during, and after the purchase process. This included email sequences designed to onboard new customers, recover abandoned carts, and keep loyal customers engaged with personalized content. We also integrated Yotpo Reviews and set up basic Google Analytics for enhanced tracking and insight into customer behavior.

Store Setup and Backend Integration

We handled the Shopify store setup, including integrating a subscription payment model, setting up real-time shipping estimates, automated tax calculations, and promotional code functionality. Additionally, we set up the product tagging structure for SEO and site organization, ensuring that all products were categorized and tagged effectively to enhance discoverability.

The Result

I head up a very lean ecommerce team at a new brand that relies on agency partners to grow. We've worked with all types of agencies -- some good, some not so good. The entire team is great. They helped us redesign and recode our entire site when we switched over to Shopify from WooCommerce. The dev team is fantastic. Of course there were some minor surprises (there always are), but the experience was overwhelmingly positive and virtually worry free. Most importantly, the migration was seamless for our customers; they experienced a new beautiful site and no glitches and bugs as we had feared. PowerCommerce was able to optimize our site so much that we experienced a 10-second decrease in average load time. This resulted in an immediate several point jump in our conversion rate. Their Design Team is a dream to work with. As a young brand, we are very opinionated when it comes to our aesthetic and assets.
